Free Braces

We are pleased to inform you that we can offer free braces for children from all over Austria in Vienna.

Free braces are available for all children and adolescents with complex malocclusions, providing significant financial relief for parents. Certified orthodontists use the highest quality silver brackets to quickly and gently create a healthy and beautiful smile.

Why should dental misalignments be corrected?

We recommend that parents of children aged 5-6 schedule a consultation for orthodontic treatment with an orthodontist.

The reasons are manifold:

• Firstly, orthodontic treatment can be important for your child's health. Misaligned teeth not only have aesthetic effects, but if left untreated, they can hinder or disrupt your child's further development. Many health issues may not initially be associated with dental misalignment. Did you know, for example, that children with crossbites often suffer from pelvic and spinal misalignments? That infections or concentration problems can be related to a narrowed upper jaw? Starting orthodontic treatment, specifically with braces, at the right time can prevent future complications such as surgeries or severe misalignments and the associated health issues later in life.
   
• Secondly, dental and jaw misalignments often lead to children being teased or mocked at school. This social pressure can lead to psychological problems early on, which can be avoided through orthodontic treatment. See the following video for more information:
   
  
  
  
   
• Thirdly, orthodontic treatment in childhood can correct jaw misalignments that might later only be resolved surgically.
   
• Fourthly: Not coming could mean missing out on something important.
   
• Last but not least: The initial consultation is free.
   

History of Free Braces

The year 2015 promises significant financial relief for thousands of families in Austria, as an agreement between the Main Association and dental chambers on the subject of "free braces" has been reached.

Free braces for children and adolescents up to 18 years old specifically provide for the following:

• Small children should be treated with removable braces
• For children over 10 years old, treatment is carried out with fixed braces

The prerequisite for free braces is a need for treatment, which is assessed using the international IOTN classification. A necessity in this context exists at misalignment levels 4 or 5.

There is no need to worry about subsidies already granted for dental misalignment corrections corresponding to IOTN levels 1 to 3 – these remain unchanged.

A total of 80 million euros is to be allocated annually for free braces. The Main Association expects 22,500 children to receive braces each year, with 80% being fitted by one of the 180 Austrian contract orthodontists, while the remaining 20% will be handled by various clinics.

Who gets free braces?

Since July 1, 2015, free braces have been available in Austria. Every patient can have an orthodontic consultation once before their 18th birthday. The exact requirements can be found here:
